Strengthening the Capacity for Environmental and Climate Change Laws in Asia and the Pacific Programme

We are a network of university teachers, trainers, and practitioners dedicated to advancing the teaching and practice of environmental, climate change and sustainability law across Asia.

Our ultimate objective is to develop a strong capacity for effective environmental governance in countries of the Asia-Pacific. By building environmental and climate law expertise, knowledge, and networks in the region, the implementation, compliance, and enforcement of environmental laws and standards can be improved.

Representing institutions in 14 countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam), we aim to leverage our knowledge, skills, and connections to build local and regional expertise around environmental and climate change laws in order to increase the number of qualified legal specialists working within government, the judiciary, civil service organizations and the private sector.

Environmental Law Champions

Environmental law teachers and institutions serve as crucial resources and trainers to ministries of environment, environmental protection agencies, judiciary, businesses and NGOs. These educators and institutions are responsible for creating the next pipeline of environment and/or climate change law practitioners and civil servants, policy makers and judges who will influence sustainability outcomes in Asia.
