One of the noteworthy features of our College is that it is centrally located at Deccan, which is the heart of Pune city, an educational hub known as ‘Oxford of the East’ and is surrounded by acclaimed national and international educational institutions. Shankarrao Chavan Law College, Pune has a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced teaching faculties. We are privileged to be closely associated with prominent legal professionals as visiting faculty, who whole-heartedly facilitate quality legal education. Our library is fully digitised and well-equipped with books, journals, reference and reading material, etc. Maximum exposure is given for students to acquire competencies in mooting, conveyancing, debating, effectively communicating, etc. through various platforms. Also, we have an active Cultural and Sports Cell for students to enhance their extra-curricular skills.

The SCLC every year hosts “Justice P.B Sawant National Moot Court Competition “in the name of legal Stalwart Hon’ble Justice P.B. Sawant, former Supreme Court of India. The purpose behind this is
- To develop advocacy skills
- To develop interpretation skills and legal reasoning
- To analyse the facts and development of arguments.
- To develop problem solving ability.
- To develop research ability.
- To develop time management skills.
- To develop drafting skills while preparing their memorial.
The primary objective is to enhance the all over personality of the student. The focus of the course is to provide practical training to the student which will enable them to understand how to implement the theory into practice. With this training student will be acquainted with skills like research skills, oratory, communication skills, English grammar, body language, mannerism, etc.
The SCLC every year organizes a state level elocution competition in the name of “Shankarrao Chavanji”, former Home Minister of India. The objective behind this competition is to enable the students to learn the art of speaking and representing themselves to a large audience. It is vital for students to thinking analytically and independently.
The College frequently conducts National Seminars, Workshops, and Symposia on current legal topics. We strongly believe that through deliberations we can provide appropriate solutions to various problems. Being a part of legal fraternity, we consider it as our duty to provide solutions for legal anomalies, changes required in present laws, create awareness about laws. Hence we constantly engage expertise lectures, workshops, seminars and symposia. Recently we organized two days National Seminar on “Revisiting Criminal Justice System- A decade after Malimath Committee Report”. Seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Uday Lalit, Judge, Supreme Court of India.
Skill of Eloquence nurtures the skill of great oral arguments as an advocate. Hence it is necessary to provide maximum exposure to the students during their student life to the skill of eloquence and debate. Considering this need, the college runs Socrates Debate Society. Through this Society, college provides platform to aspiring students to participate in various debate competitions organized at Local, State & National Level.
For living a dignified Human life, human rights are essential. With this noble thought SCLC has constituted a cell for Human Right and every year college celebrates Human Rights Week commencing from 10 th December the day which is celebrated as World International Human Rights Day. During entire week college organizes various lectures, documentaries on human rights issues, visit to NGO’s, awareness programme.
Family is the smallest cell of a society, hence it is the responsibility of the SCLC to educate the law students regarding the sensitive issues involved in protection of social fabric. And as a part of our social responsibility SCLC constituted the family counseling centre under the expert guidance of Mr V.V. Shahapurkar, Rtd. Principal Judge, Family Court, Pune.
Lawyers being social engineers owe a special duty to the society as far as awareness and enforcement of the rights are concerned. It is with this object SCLC constituted its own “Free Legal Aid Cell” in 2005 to provide free legal aid to the poor, needy and disadvantaged sections of the society. Every year a legal-aid –camp is organized to educate the students with real and practical knowledge in depth.
We do not restrict the curricular activities to the campus, but also organize study tours at various places for students to make them aware of prevailing conditions in that field. Recently College organized study tour to the Parliament and the Supreme Court of India at New Delhi. It helped the students to understand the proceeding at both the places in detail.
A Cultural event is an opportunity for the students to exhibit their creative skill. SCLC celebrates annual cultural event- “Lawzillah”.
SCLC not only believes in further exposure and growth of the students but also of the faculty. In order to facilitate the process, the college is developing a plan for faculty & Student exchange programme with various International Law Schools & Universities. Various International Professors has graced the collage and enlighten the students. The Research Collaborations are also initiated under the same
The Placement Cell is one of the most important Cells of the College, shouldering the responsibility of providing a stepping stone to success to budding lawyers graduating from the college. The placement cell provides internship twice in academic year i.e. summer internship and winter internship.
College also runs the NSS Unit.
