Lawyers are social engineers and as an institute creating lawyers, in an attempt to discharge responsibility towards society the Shankarrao Chavan Law College established the Family Counseling Centre, under the guidance of Hon'ble Mr. V.V. Shahpurkar, Former Principal Judge of Family Court, Pune.

The Family Counseling Centre was formally inaugurated on 10th August 2013, at the auspicious hands of Hon'ble Justice Anilkumar Dave, judge, Supreme Court of India, in the gracious presence of Justice Sadhana Jadhav, judge , High Court of Bombay & Justice Vidyasagar Kanade , Judge of High Court of Bombay. Mr. V.V. Shahapurkar is the President of this center. Properly designed Executive Committee of this centre discharges the responsibility of execution of the center. The centre is having an expert wing which consists of renowned experts from medical and legal field. Twice in a week, Hon'ble Shahpurkar sir, Dr. Pravin Motiwalla, and Mr. Sudam Gayake former counsellers Family Court Pune personally meets persons having family problems and tender advise them as to further course of action. Experience, and compassion of Shahpurkar sir coupled with the co-operation of faculty assisting him, has resulted in saving of many marriages which were on the verge of breaking.
Recently work of Centre Special appreciation by High Court of Bombay by giving recognition as an Official Mediator.
